Patrick Fernandes, executive managing director of the Carillon Miami Wellness Resort, explains that the chosen products must align with the hotel's brand, comply with local requirements, and be practical for guests. The products should also cater to a variety of hair and skin types and address common conditions like dandruff.

In locations where guests frequently use the beach or pools, the product line may focus on combating the drying effects of chlorine. Luxury properties may offer branded products such as Le Labo, C.O. Bigelow, or Malin + Goetz. However, many hotels simply label their non-branded products as "shampoo" and "conditioner."

The Selection Process

Hotels often choose a hair-care brand that accommodates the needs of most guests, even if it doesn't meet every requirement. They may rely on Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) or approach brands through mailing lists. This means that the brands stocked by hotels may not be familiar to the average consumer.

Overall, the lack of curly-hair products in hotels highlights the need for more inclusive options for travelers with diverse hair types. By expanding their product offerings, hotels can ensure that all guests feel catered to and have a comfortable stay.
