This SPF 50 Skin Tint Has Replaced Foundation in My Makeup Routine

As a sunscreen connoisseur, I'm always on the lookout for innovative formulas, and Live Tinted's new Hueguard Skin Tint SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen ($42) immediately caught my attention. I was already a huge fan of the brand's original Hueguard 3-in-1 Mineral Sunscreen, Moisturizer, Primer SPF 30, as well as other products in their lineup, like the Clear Setting Eyebrow Gel and the color-correcting multisticks. This new skin tint is supposed to streamline your morning routine by essentially filling your need for a separate SPF and foundation, all while eliminating the dreaded white cast.

About the Live Tinted Hueguard Skin Tint SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen

It's formulated with 9.5 percent non-nano zinc oxide, it delivers broad spectrum SPF 50 protection, and it's water- and sweat-resistant for up to 80 minutes. It also contains butterfly bush flower extract, which offers antioxidant protection; Indian gooseberry, or amla, which has high vitamin C content; and hyaluronic acid and sea buckthorn oil for hydration and moisture retention. It comes in 10 flexible shades, with a radiant finish. It's vegan, cruelty-free, fragrance-free, and noncomedogenic.

What I Like About the Live Tinted Hueguard Skin Tint SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen

Live Tinted's Hueguard Skin Tint surprisingly delivers pigmented wear with absolutely no white cast. Because the shades are flexible, I can be shade 6 in the winter or shade 5 in the summer or when I have a tan. The color just melts into my skin, delivering a more even-toned base. It pretty much replaces a foundation in the morning. All I have to do is color correct and spot conceal for a full-coverage or flawless look.

The texture also feels so elegant on the skin. It doesn't feel like a traditional sunscreen, but rather a hydrating moisturizer. When comparing the skin tint to the brand's original Hueguard, the skin tint feels more hydrating. It has a more liquid-foundation-like texture, similar to a lightweight gel cream. The radiant finish gives the appearance of glowing, healthy skin that's sun-kissed, but if you're like me and prefer something a little more satin-like, just brush on a light layer of translucent powder so you get that glow-from-within look without looking too oily.

How to Use the Live Tinted Hueguard Skin Tint SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen

The Hueguard Skin Tint is a buildable formula, so you can achieve a your-skin-but-better look or layer it to make it appear like a medium-coverage foundation. I like to dot the skin tint all over and use my fingers to blend it out. The brand says you can also use a sponge to blend it, but I found that using my fingers allows me to get the most product onto my skin. Because this is a hybrid makeup and skin-care product, I apply it as the last step of my skin-care routine and as the first step in my makeup routine. I like to set it with a translucent powder for a more mattifying or streak-free look, and I follow it up with the Hueskin Serum Concealer, which is my perfect shade match.

What to Consider Before Trying the Live Tinted Hueguard Skin Tint SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen

Although I'm an advocate for the two-finger method for measuring out the ideal amount of SPF, I found that with this skin tint, it's best to apply it in thin layers to get the desired coverage you want. Applying too much product at once is hard to work with and can deliver a cakey look. If you do decide to keep it to one to two pumps for a more lightweight application, I suggest using another SPF underneath this skin tint, like the original Hueguard sunscreen, to make sure you get adequate UVA/UVB protection.
