Quick Summary of Article

Urgent Recall Alert

Trader Joe's is pulling a popular household item off its shelves due to significant safety risks. The retailer has issued a recall for approximately 653,000 Mango Tangerine Scented Candles after reports of the product causing over a dozen fire incidents.

Safety Hazard Identified

The recall was initiated following the discovery that the candle's flame could unexpectedly spread from the wick to the wax, leading to larger-than-expected fires. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been 14 reports of such incidents, including three cases of minor property damage and two instances of minor burns.

Product Details and Refund Information

The affected candles, sold in June for about $4, are contained in tin containers with white-colored wax and a cotton wick, weighing approximately 5.7 ounces. Customers who have purchased these candles are urged to cease use immediately and return them to any Trader Joe's store for a full cash refund or opt for a $4 gift card by completing an online Product Feedback Form. For the latter option, a receipt or photo of the candle may be required.

A Year of Recalls

This candle recall is part of a series of product recalls by Trader Joe's in 2024, including a variety of items from Chicken, Lentil & Caramelized Onion Pilaf to Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings and several others due to health risks or potential contamination. Earlier recalls also involved products contaminated with foreign materials such as rocks, metal, and undeclared allergens.

Trader Joe's is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers and encourages anyone with the recalled candles to take immediate action to prevent any potential harm.
