Short-Lived Savings
In a move that caught many by surprise, Subway has decided to discontinue its $6.99 Meal Deal, a recent promotion aimed at drawing customers with an attractive price point. The deal, which included a six-inch sub, a small drink, and a side, was initially launched to compete with similar offers from other fast-food chains. However, this promotion will be ending in restaurants starting Wednesday, Nov. 27, although it will still be available digitally until Dec. 26.
New Digital Offer Incoming
Subway isn't leaving its customers without options. To replace the $6.99 Meal Deal, the company is introducing a new digital offer that grants a 20% discount on any sub. This new deal is set to launch on the same day the meal deal ends in restaurants and will be available through Jan. 5, aiming to provide value to customers in a different format.
Why the Change?
The decision to cancel the meal deal stems from its performance not meeting Subway's expectations. Despite the deal achieving its goal of increasing traffic and sales during its test phase, it didn't bring the anticipated results once launched nationally. This led to the early termination of the offer in restaurants, about a month before its initially scheduled end date.
Subway's Strategic Shift
Subway has expressed its commitment to adapting its promotional strategies to best serve its business and customers. By leveraging data and feedback, the company aims to balance consumer appeal with the profitability of its franchisees. This approach underscores Subway's willingness to adjust its offerings to ensure they are beneficial for all parties involved.
While the abrupt end of the $6.99 Meal Deal may disappoint some, Subway's quick pivot to a new digital offer highlights the company's proactive stance in maintaining customer satisfaction and business health. As Subway continues to test new promotions, it remains to be seen how these strategies will evolve to meet the changing needs of the fast-food market.
