Hidden Dangers of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) | Access Health

peripheral artery disease

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is one of the most common circulation disorders, affecting more than 200 million people worldwide. That's approximately one in every 20 Americans over the age of 50.

PAD is a progressive disorder that occurs due to plaque buildup in the arteries, which restricts oxygen rich blood flow in the legs, feet, and other arteries.

Up to half of people diagnosed show no symptoms. That's why this life-threatening condition often goes unreported and undiagnosed. Many cases are detected after permanent damage has occurred. This puts sufferers at risk of heart attack, stroke, and loss of a limb, or even death.

Access Health traveled to Nashville to find out more from the experts in PAD. Stay tuned as we hear two first-hand experiences from patients.

Then, we discover innovations in diagnosis, assessment, and management of the disorder. In addition, we discuss early detection and positive patient experiences due in part to education and new treatments.
