With the FDA giving "full approval" of the Pfizer COVID vaccine this past week, the door is now open for more places to mandate vaccines. "If you're a business, a nonprofit, a state or local leader who has been waiting for full and final FDA approval before you put vaccination requirements in place, now is the time," White House coronavirus response coordinator Jeffrey Zients said at this week's briefing. "You have the power to protect your communities and help end the pandemic through vaccination requirements." "Do what I did last month: Require your employees to get vaccinated or face strict requirements," President Joe Biden said Monday.

Whether you work at Goldman Sachs or the NFL or Disney or Facebook or Netflix, all of which have vaccine mandates, you may soon be asked to get vaccinated or lose your job. This happened just this week, as "CNN recently fired three staffers after learning they were working in the office despite being unvaccinated," according to the Washington Post. "The Houston Methodist hospital system dismissed or asked for the resignation of 153 workers who refused to get inoculated." They aren't alone. "United Airlines announced Friday that all U.S.-based employees will be required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and upload their vaccination card to a company site by this fall," according to ABC News. Other companies that have vaccine mandates are Tyson Foods, Uber and Google. Your office may be next.

Restaurants in New York City and San Francisco are requiring vaccines for entry, and experts believe that may just be the start. In California for example, "state lawmakers are considering a COVID-19 vaccine requirement that would be among the most sweeping in the country and could soon force Californians to show proof of vaccination to go about much of their daily lives," according to the Mercury News, including mandates for restaurants and gyms statewide. The governor of North Carolina agrees that it's important to get vaccinated before dining. "You are doing the right thing. I believe it will be good for business," said Governor Roy Cooper, when touring a restaurant that required vaccinations for entry.

COVID has been proven to spread in gyms, particularly group fitness classes. While exercise is an important component of overall health, Dr. Anthony Fauci has urged the importance of staying out of shared workout spaces during the pandemic. Fauci has explained that when you exercise, you breathe more heavily and release respiratory droplets into the air. There is also the chance that you can spread or contact the virus by touching contaminated gym equipment that hasn't been sanitized. Fauci himself opts to exercise outdoors, going for a jog and wearing a mask when others are around. "SoulCycle parent company Equinox Group said Monday that its members, riders and staff will be required to show one-time proof of vaccination in order to enter its facilities, beginning early next month," says CNBC. "The high-end fitness chain added that an "overwhelming majority" of its paying customers are in support of mandating vaccines in order to enter its clubs and cycling studios." "We have a responsibility to take bold action and respond to changing circumstances with urgency," said Equinox Group Executive Chairman Harvey Spevak. "We encourage other leading brands to join us in this effort to best protect our communities."

"Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Wednesday banning any state or local mandates requiring people to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and he called on Texas legislators to vote it into law during their current special session," reports NPR. "The move came as Texas reported the most COVID-19 patients in its hospitals since the pandemic began. Abbott issued his ban in an executive order to fill a loophole left by the full authorization of the Pfizer vaccine. He had previously banned the requirement of vaccinations under emergency use authorizations. He also has banned state and local government mandates for wearing masks."

"I would like to appeal to the people in the country who are not vaccinated to realize that we have the capability among ourselves to essentially cut down the time frame to getting to the end of this pandemic," Fauci said during the briefing Tuesday.
