I resonate with the quote that belongs to Tim Ferris. "If you win your morning, you win the day." It cannot be argued that the way you start your day will dictate how that day will unfold. You may not be able to make all the changes that I will introduce shortly, but even choosing one every couple of weeks is a sure way to find success.
Tip 1: Leave Your Cell Phone Outside Your Bedroom
My first tip starts the night before. Leave your cell phone outside your bedroom door. I know you are probably saying that you need it for your alarm. You feel you are safe from EMF if you put it on airplane mode. Rising with light as close to the rising of the sun as possible is far more relaxing and encouraging than a shrilling alarm. This way you are eased into consciousness and have a more relaxed start to the day.
Added to this fact, leaving your phone outside the bedroom limits you scrolling before bed which is a must to try and avoid at all costs.
Tip 2: Dress for Success
If you are a stay-at-home mom or work from home, the worst thing you can do is stay in cozy loungewear. Either put on workout clothes, which may motivate you to move more throughout the day, or get dressed as if you are leaving the house. Wearing loose-fitting, relaxed wear day after day brings less awareness to what you are feeding yourself and can promote more comfort foods and weight gain.
Tip 3: Alkalize Your Internal Terrain
It is very important to alkalize (cleanse) your internal terrain before consuming coffee. When we sleep, we are in a stagnant acidic state. We are not moving, and our lymphatic tissue is still all night. We are also less hydrated. If we immediately run to the coffee machine (coffee is very acidic and a diuretic) it is quite toxic to the gut microbiome. Starting your day with a bit of lemon and ginger in water, or some alkalizing herbs is the best way to go. Of course, herbal tea is a better choice than coffee.
Tip 4: Get Outside
Get outside! Even if it is for 5 minutes, breathing in some fresh air can make all the difference in your energy and your mental clarity at the start of the day. If you have the time, then go for a brisk walk. Even if it is only 10 minutes. Checking your emails and text messages can wait.
Tip 5: Rethink Breakfast
Contrary to what you may have heard, breakfast is not the most important meal of the day. Studies have shown that time-restricted eating can improve cognitive function. I have seen many clients rushing to eat unhealthy breakfast cereals that are loaded with sugar because they think they are supposed to eat. This is the furthest thing from the truth, especially if you are eating junk food. If you have the time and are truly hungry, then a fruit smoothie or fruit bowl is the best choice to start your day. Fruit is loaded with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and all the Phyto nutrients necessary to provide you with good energy and vitality.
Creating a morning ritual can be the best way for you to initiate positive change this year. You will never know until you try. Ease into these suggestions and perhaps they will create new habits for 2024.
