This week, Melissa Joan Hart announced on an Instagram video that she had a breakthrough COVID infection. "I am vaccinated and I got COVID, and it's bad," said the actress, who described her symptoms as shortness of breath and feeling a weight on her chest. "I'm mad, really mad," said Hart. "We took precautions and we cut our exposure by a lot, but we got a little lazy. And I think as a country we got lazy. I'm really mad that my kids didn't have to wear masks at school. I'm pretty sure that's where this came from."
She added: "I just wish I'd done better, so I'm asking you to do better. Protect your families. Protect your kids. It's not over yet."

Shortness of Breath

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shortness of breath is a common sign of COVID-19. If you're having serious difficulty breathing, you should seek emergency attention immediately.
Cough

A persistent cough is another common symptom of COVID, says the CDC. But according to the COVID Symptom Study, it may be becoming less common with the Delta variant. It was the fifth-most-reported symptom among people who've been unvaccinated and partially vaccinated, but only #8 among people who've been fully vaccinated, like Hart. Other symptoms were more frequently seen. Read on to find out what they are.

Runny Nose

Sneezing

Another common cold symptom—sneezing—wasn't frequently reported earlier in the pandemic but now seems to be a common sign of Delta variant infection. Sneezing is the #3 most reported COVID symptom among the fully vaccinated and #4 in the partially vaccinated group. "Curiously, we noticed that people who had been vaccinated and then tested positive for COVID-19 were more likely to report sneezing as a symptom compared with those without a jab," the COVID Symptom Study researchers say. "If you've been vaccinated and start sneezing a lot without an explanation, you should get a COVID test, especially if you are living or working around people who are at greater risk from the disease."
