The Comeback Kid: Hair Rollers
Just when we thought we had the beach wave down pat, the beauty world does a 180, bringing back the smooth, bouncy blowouts reminiscent of '90s supermodels. Social media is abuzz with tutorials on achieving that voluminous look, with hair rollers emerging as the go-to tool. Yes, you heard it right – hair rollers are back, and they're making a statement.
'90s Supermodel Hair: The Bigger, The Better
Celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawkins, the genius behind Olivia Rodrigo's iconic hairstyles, has declared that when it comes to rollers, size matters. "Giant '90s roller sets are going to be everywhere," Hawkins predicts, pointing to a revival of the Cindy Crawford and Fran Drescher era, but with a contemporary twist. This style is a bold move away from the casual Zoom meeting buns and into something more classic and fun.
My '90s Hair Experiment
Inspired by my style icon Fran Drescher, I decided to give my hair the supermodel treatment using a set of jumbo hair rollers I found on Amazon. With fine, thin hair, I'm always in search of extra volume, and what better way to achieve it than emulating the '90s blowout? I prepped my hair with leave-in conditioner, heat-protectant, and hair oil, then got to work with my blowdryer and rollers.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Voluminous Locks
Starting with the front pieces, I blow-dried my hair in different directions before rolling them into the jumbo rollers. I worked through my hair in sections, using a round brush to create a flip at the ends before securing each section with a roller. After allowing the rollers to set for about 15 minutes, I finished off with a texturizing spray for extra hold. The result? A smooth, bouncy blowout that had me doing a double-take in the mirror – was that Jennifer Aniston or just me?
Final Thoughts and Future Plans
While I don't plan on abandoning my curling iron altogether, these velcro rollers have definitely earned their place in my beauty routine. Next time, I'll experiment with leaving the rollers in longer and using texturizing spray beforehand for added grip. Hairspray might also make an appearance to ensure the style holds. The '90s blowout is back, and I'm here for it.
